तेरी-मेरी कहानी ! जैसे धूप-छाँह या पानी ! कोई भ्रम पालने की ज़रूरत कहाँ होती है।ज़िंदगी कभी हँसती ,कभी रोती है।कभी खिलखिलाती है तो भैया कभी दिल भी निकाल कर ले जाती है और हम बिना दिल के ही जिंदा रहते हैं।घुटते रहते हैं अंदर ही अंदर और फुस्स होकर रह जाते हैं।नहीं लगता कभी-कभी कि हम एक ऐसे संसार में जी रहे हैं जहाँ संवेदनाओं की कोई महत्ता ही नहीं है 7 हम जीते हैं क्योंकि कोई और उपाय नज़र नहीं आता ,स्यूसाइड हम क्र नहीं सकते ,भागना नहीं है न जीवन से 7 जाने कितनी लाख योनियों के बात ये मनुष्य का जीवन मिला है 7 अब उसे खोने का मतलब ? वैसे तो पता नहीं —पर भइया हम मतलब निलकते तो रहते हैं ,अपनी-अपनी बुद्धि के अनुसार !
कल ही की बात ले लो —-अच्छे -खासे जा रहे थे लोग ,अपने-अपने काम पर ,ज़रा सा टकरा क्या गई गाड़ियाँ ,तलवारें निकल आईं 7 रास्ते में भीड़ जमा हो गई वो अलग ! तमाशाइयों ने हो-हल्ला करना शुरू कर दिया ,किसीको न तो कोई चोट लगी थी ,न ही कोई ऎसी दुर्घटना हुई थी जिससे किसी की कोई हानि हुई हो 7 समझो भैया! बस हल्के हवा के झौंके सी टकरा गईं थीं गाड़ियाँ —और शोर ! दुनिया भर का ! जैसे आसमान ज़मीन पर आ गिरा हो ,जैसे पैरों के नीचे से रेत निकल गई हो.जैसे सरे आम किसीकी इज़्ज़त लुट रही हो ! अच्छा भैया ! कभी किसी ज़रूरतमंद के लिए इतना शोर करते देखा है किसीको —? सड़क पर गिरे हुए आदमी को भी उठाने से कतराते नहीं हैं लोग ? और फालतूओं की भीड़ लग भी जाए तो उस बेचारे को तो कोई ऐसा ही बंदा उठाने जाएगा जिसके दिल में अभी पत्थर फ़िट न हो गया हो ,बाकी तो सब ऐसे भाग जाएंगे जैसे गधे के सर से सींग !
गाड़ियाँ टकराईं तो उसमें और किसीका कोई दोष नहीं ,हमारा ही दोष तो है —हम जहाँ पुलिस का मुखड़ा दिखाई नहीं देता वहाँ ट्रैफ़िक के कितने नियमों का पालन करते हैं ? अपने पिता का साम्राज्य समझते हैं ,और उन्हीं की सड़क या गली —जो भी हो 7 नियमों का पालन हम न करें,गाली दें दूसरों को और तमाशा देखे फालतू में ऐसे लोग जो ‘पर उपदेश कुशल बहुतेरे ‘ और ख़ुद पर जब आए तो भइया तौबा —-
हम ,वो लोग हैं जो विदेशों में जाकर ऐसे समझदार बन जाते हैं मानो माँ के पेट से समझदारी की घुट्टी पीकर दुनिया में अवतरित हुए हों 7 किसीको एकाध बार ज़ुर्माना भरना पड़ जाए —नानी-दादी सब याद आ जाएं 7 तो भैया ! जब दूसरे देश में जाकर हम फाफड़ा यानि सीधे-सादे बनकर रह सकते हैं तो अपने देश में जलेबी बनकर रहना ज़रूरी है ?
सोचें,कोई जल्दी नहीं है ,
वैसे हम फिर मिलेंगे आपसे
हम भी कुछ कम नहीं हैं ?????
सो भइया ! छोटों को दुलार ,बड़ों को प्रणाम —
सत श्रीअकाल,सलाम,राम-राम —–

Dr. H R Nagendra, is widely recognized across the world as Yoga Guru. This yoga day knows something special from Dr. H R Nagendra.

You’ve graduated in mechanical engineering and secured a doctoral degree from the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru and in today’s date you’re recognised for your contribution to yoga. How a mechanical engineer turned into a personal yoga consultant of Prime Minister of India? Mr Modi very strong believer and practitioner of Yoga Tell us about your Journey.

I will describe my journey as ‘In search of Truth

I was doing my Ph.D from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore when I had a chance to meet Professor ASN Shastry. He opened the doors of a new world for me. He combined his brilliant analysis with spiritual wisdom and deep knowledge of the classical teachings to offer a new vision especially to people like me who have perhaps been too focused on scientific thinking. Under his guidance I started searching for reality. I started meditating. Getting deep into the meditation I was convinced this is the way the world has to progress in modern science.
Then in 1987, our honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Mr Modi very strong believer and practitioner of Yoga visited Prashanti Kutiram, Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana (VYASA), Bengaluru. VYASA is based on the teachings of Swami Vivekananda and Shri Narendra Modi is also a follower of Swami Vivekananda. He was extremely impressed with our approach and took to the practice of yoga.
How many years have you been associated with Yoga? And Do you see a change in people’s attitude towards Yoga from past to today’s time?
It has been more than 50 years now. Yes, people’s attitude has undergone a sea Change. Yoga has a lot to offer. It is not merely physical. It is a holistic science that strikes a balance between your body, mind and soul. Contrary to general perception and belief, even yoga can offer immediate results.

The Government of India awarded you the fourth highest civilian honour of the Padma Shri, in 2016. What was going through in your mind at that time?
I was honoured to have received Padma Shri. It is the recognition to Yoga and to our team that has been working constantly for the benefit of the mankind.

Do you think that the current government’s approach gave Yoga a International Recognition?

Yes, of course. It is because of the efforts made by our Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Mr Modi very strong believer and practitioner of Yoga that June 21st is now recognized and celebrated as the International Day of Yoga.

Whenever it comes to yoga, it is a matter of many people’s mind that it keeps the body in the center or the mind or the soul?

Yes. Physical well being is also important.

You’ve authored 35 books and over 100 research papers on Yoga. So the question arises why only yoga? Do you have any interest related to yoga or you want to awaken the people about the benefits of Yoga?

Yes, I want to bring the benefits of yoga to all and help the mankind to meet the challenges of the modern era. Yoga takes us to reality to fullest extent. Yoga practice helps you move towards that God, if you want to call it as God, call it, or if you want to call it as pure consciousness or Moksha. Moksha means infinite freedom, freedom from all tensions, stresses, diseases, bondage of the mind, bondage of the emotions.

To be mentally and physically fit, how many hours do an average person should spend on yoga?

At least half hour a day one should invest on Yoga to seek benefits.

Do you think that people of all religious backgrounds should practice yoga?

Yes, most religious practices have a component of yoga.

Share your experience with Prime Minister? And anything special you learned from him? And tell us about Prime Minister dedication towards Yoga?

His time management is unparalleled; his humility, memory are fantastic – much to learn from him. He is a role model for me. Mr Modi very strong believer and practitioner of Yoga , he knows what he wants and is very keen to see how we are developing scientific research in yoga.

The next question is short but it’s really very important. Why you think YOGA is a need in today’s life.
Yoga brings bliss, health for the individual, harmony and peace on earth.

Do you want to give any message to countrymen?

All should practice Yoga. At least follow the Yoga protocol developed for International Day of Yoga.

The last question is that what is the future of Yoga in India and in the world?

The future of Yoga in India is indeed wonderful. Yoga is the much needed revolution that we all have been looking for. There is a lot happening in India to promote and propagate Yoga. Among many one such example is World Assembly on Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy (7-10th November, 2019) which is being organised in Greater Noida, India. WAAYN aims at unearthing the treasure of ancient knowledge and combine it with modern day advancement to benefit the mankind.

Brief about Dr HR Nagendra

H. R. Nagendra is an Indian mechanical engineer, Yoga therapist, academic, writer and the Founder Chancellor of Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana (S-VYASA), Bengaluru. He is a recipient of Yoga Shri title from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. He has authored 35 books and over 100 research papers on Yoga. The Government of India awarded him the fourth highest civilian honour of the Padma Shri in 2016, for his contributions to society.

Born on Janauary 1, 1943. Dr. H R Nagendra received his Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Bangalore University in and PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore in 1968. Later served as faculty of IISc in Department of Mechanical Engineering. Served as Post-Doctoral Research Fellow in the University of British Columbia, Canada in 1969. In 1970 moved to NASA Marshall Space Flight Centre, USA as Post-Doctoral Research Associate. In 1972 Moved to Engineering Science Laboratory, Harvard University, USA as a Consultant and also a Visiting Staff at Imperial College of Science and Technology, London.
Dr. H R Nagendra, During 1975, joined Vivekananda Kendra, a service mission, as Honorary Director of Training Centre, Vivekanandapuram, Kanyakumari. Served as Secretary, Vivekananda Kendra Yoga Therapy & Research Committee (VK YOGAS) during 1979-1986. During 1993-2000 served All India Vice-President.
Dr. H R Nagendra, is Serving as President Viveknanda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana (VYASA), Bengaluru, since 2000 . Served as Vice Chancellor Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samthana University (S-VYASA) from 2002-2013 and serving as Chancellor from 2013.

Hard-earned time in a year can either be wasted or utilized through performing arts

Digital devices have invaded the lives of children; the number of time children spends glued to a screen has risen dramatically in the last 20 years. The statistics show Children aged five to 16 spend an average of six and a half hours a day in front of a screen.

Summer is the best time of the year which provide an ample amount of free and relaxed time to children. Instead of spending time on screens let your child come out of books and explore their creativity during these summer holidays as it is scientifically proven that creativity help in a child’s cognitive development right from a tender age of four till adolescence.

This hard-earned time in a year can either be wasted or utilized by the students. So it is important that you give your child an option to engage in performing arts. The benefits of art for kids are many and include problem-solving abilities, creativity, and literacy, fine & gross motor skills, connection, and understanding.

  Art is a delightful way through which you can record the development of your child’s growth. When children are exposed to any artistic activity the brain is stimulated from sounds, movements, colors, and sizes; neural connections increase and the brain is exercised and strengthened. The process is of greater benefit for children under three years since their brain is maturing and is highly sensitive to external stimuli. When practicing to improve, they learn to be persistent and consistent. Here’s a look at some activities that children can try this summer and their advantages.

Music –Music training speeds up brain development in children. Observing a pianist at a recital – converting musical notations into precisely timed finger movements on a piano – can be a powerful emotional experience. Music training has been found to be related to better language, mathematical skills, and overall greater academic achievement. Also, the difference between musicians and no musicians has been found in areas of the brain related to hearing and movement, among others.

 Dance-Keeping the body active has the massive benefit of keeping the mind sharp, and for children, learning to dance can develop their personality in multiple ways. Dance not only gives them a free space to express themselves but also helps improve their movements and brings about positive behavioral changes. On a physical level, dance helps improve overall fitness, endurance, and a greater range of motion muscle toning and strengthening. Dance and music are full of options for your child.

Craft- Colors, sketch pens, crayons, and paper cuttings are fascinating tools for kids. Every child wants to paint her mind, even if it turns out to be not very pretty to look at. Trying to express himself or herself through art will help your child delve into the world of his imagination, which wills ultimately strengthen the brain.

High quality arts or cultural experiences in early childhood can help children develop subsequent abilities in the arts which will be useful right through life. Early years arts and cultural activities can help children make sense of their cognitive, physical, emotional, spiritual, linguistic, and moral development by enhancing the whole curriculum.
